SENIORS SNAPSHOT T wo of the new-look ITF Seniors World Championship events were packed into the first half of 2015 and the figures are quite staggering. Antalya, Turkey, in March: 91 teams from 25 countries gather to contest the ITF Young Seniors World Team Championships, and the following week 272 men and women from 40 nations take part in the Young Seniors World Individual Championships. La Baule, France, in June: 118 teams from 29 countries converge to play in the ITF Seniors World Team Championships, and then 431 players from 36 countries compete in the Seniors World Individual Championships. All this before an estimated 600 players from 40 countries travel to Croatia at the end of September to be a part of the ITF Super-Seniors World Team and Individual Championships. This year marks the first time that these most prestigious tournaments on the ITF Seniors Circuit have been split into three, rather than two age brackets, a testament to their increasing popularity. Young Seniors is for players in the 35-plus to 45-plus age categories, Seniors is for those contesting 50-plus to 60-plus titles, and Super Seniors is for 65-plus to 85-plus. Given the opportunity to meet up with old friends and rivals from around the world and get competitive juices flowing in very pleasant surroundings, it's hardly surprising that these events are so popular, both with accomplished amateur players and former pros on the ATP and WTA tours. The big country winners so far are Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and USA, whose players have taken home both team and individual honours from Antalya and La Baule. ITFWorld presents a photographic round-up of the action.
