20 ITFWORLD SPRING 2014 The first round of the 2014 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas featured all four Grand Slam nations among the 16-nation elite World Group, and they all played each other. While Great Britain and France progressed — with France going on to the semis — USA, Australia and the other six losing nations from the first round will fight to retain their World Group status in the World Group play-offs, to be held the same weekend as the semifinals on 12-14 September. Five continents will host World Group play-off ties with the line-up being as follows, host nations first: India v Serbia, Brazil v Spain, Israel v Argentina, Canada v Colombia, USA v Slovak Republic, Australia v Uzbekistan, Netherlands v Croatia, Ukraine v Belgium. In total 122 nations are involved in this year's Davis Cup competition.
