With the score at 5-5 in the first set, the Russian pair of Klimov and Dubrivnyy broke serve and then served out the set to take the early lead. Both teams served magnificently in the second set and there wasn't a single break to separate the two teams as it moved into a tiebreak. The American boys had a serve for the title at 6-5 but were unable to convert the match point and the Russians stormed back to win the next two points and claim an elusive first title, much to the delight of their fervent support. The girls' final was a little more one-sided. The opening rubber was close, however, with Claire Liu of USA taking on Sofya Zhuk of Russia. Zhuk had much the better start and raced through the opening set 62. Liu appeared to calm her nerves in the second set and broke with the score at 4-4 before holding her own serve to win the set 64. The American was now in the ascendency and would not be stopped, breaking twice in the final set to win it 63 and give the Americans the first point. The second rubber saw Catherine Bellis of USA, one of the best girls at the tournament, take on Russia's Evgeniya Levashova. Levashova could not get the better of her nerves in the opening set, and struggled to find any accuracy or rhythm in her game. Bellis duly capitalised to take the first set 61. Levashova broke early in the second set but lost her way again and Bellis ran out a comfortable winner, taking the set 62 to give the American girls a sixth 14-and-under title, a feat not matched by any other nation in the boys' or girls' competitions. The battle for third place in the boys' event was won by France with Matteo Martineau and Corentin Moutet defeating an Australian side missing its No. 1 due to injury 2-0. In the girls' event, it was Anna Slovakova and Marketa Vondrousova of Czech Republic who delighted the local support to clinch a place on the podium, the host nation coming back from a rubber behind to defeat Canada in the doubles. The competition has play-offs to decide the final standings of all 16 nations taking part, the most crucial being the 15-16th place play-offs which determines the relegation places. This can affect how many nations a region has in the following year's finals. This year, the Italians were the escape artists, winning both of the 15-16th play-offs. They defeated Tunisia in the boys' tournament and Peru in the girls' tournament which means that the number of nations from each region will stay the same for 2014.
