Martin Redlicki and Kamil Majchrzak absorb their doubles victory Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova give their acceptance speech Wildcard Tornado Alicia Black had a fantastic run to the final Roland Garros champion Christian Garin reached the semis Thanasi Kokkinakis put a six-month injury lay-off behind him www.itftennis.com Japan's Mayo Hibi was a semifinalist Black's gritty determination pulled her through the draw and nearly landed her with the trophy — she led 5-3 in the third set tiebreaker until Konjuh's experience prevailed. "It's really good I got to the finals," Black said. "I don't have much experience in that and she does. She's a really good player. She's the one that played better today." Another name in the girls' forum to keep an eye out for is 11th-seeded Mayo Hibi, who plays for Japan but has lived most of her life in southern California. She made it to the semifinals where Konjuh took her out of the competition 63 63. The biggest shockwave in the juniors came when seventhseeded Antonia Lottner of Germany ended top-seeded Belinda Bencic's dream of winning three straight junior majors in a 64 62 quarterfinal win. Switzerland's Bencic came into the US Open as the favourite courtesy of already picking up the 2013 Roland Garros and Wimbledon trophies. In the boys' draw, Kokkinakis, who was also a finalist at the Australian Open in January, showed that a back injury that kept him out for close to six months after that tournament is healed. En route to the final, Kokkinakis beat the reigning Wimbledon champion Gianluigi Quinzi of Italy in the quarterfinals and Roland Garros champion Christian Garin of Chile in the semifinals. "I kind of knew I belonged since January when I made the (Australian Open) final, to be honest," Kokkinakis said. "I've been injured and that's been frustrating. It's definitely a good feeling to beat the Wimbledon and Roland Garros champions back-to-back." In boys' doubles, a Polish bond between Kamil Majchrzak of Poland and Martin Redlicki of USA, a child of Polish immigrants who speaks fluent Polish, proved a winner when they beat Quentin Halys of France and Frederico Ferreira Silva of Portugal 63 64 in the final. "There's no words to describe it," Redlicki said. "Being at home, winning a Grand Slam. Just don't wake me up yet, that's all I have to say." The top-seeded Czech team of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova continued their dominance of Grand Slam junior doubles by adding the US Open title to their previous achievements of winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon. They won all three without dropping a set. At Flushing Meadows, Krejcikova and Siniakova defeated third-seeded Bencic and Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain 63 64. "It's a great year for me," Krejcikova said. "They (the trophies) are in my bedroom. I have a special place for them and I can see them from my bed. I wake up every morning and they're still there."
