The venue as it looked during London 2012 WORLDWIDE COACHES CONFERENCE GOES TO CANCUN The 2013 ITF Worldwide Coaches Conference by BNP Paribas will be held in Cancun, Mexico, on 5-9 November. The event is being organised by the ITF in conjunction with the Federacion Mexicana de Tenis and COTECC and will be held at the Iberostar Cancun Resort. The ITF Worldwide Coaches Conference by BNP Paribas is the showpiece of the ITF���s Coach Education Programme and regularly attracts coaches and experts from over 100 countries. The five-day conference will bring together leading international experts in coach education, player performance and sport science to present on the latest developments in these fields through practical on-court coaching and lecture room presentations. Confirmed speakers for 2013 include Nick Bollettieri (USA), Bruce Elliott (AUS), Rohan Goetzke (AUS), Sven Groeneveld (NED), Jim Loehr (USA) and Patrick McEnroe (USA). Vergeer VISITS South Africa Before she retired (see page 7), Esther Vergeer took part in a Johan Cruyff Foundation trip to South Africa in February to mark the 10th anniversary of the Cruyff Foundation���s involvement in the Wheelchair Tennis Development Fund. The trip included visits to ongoing projects in Elaansdorn and Johannesburg. The Wheelchair Tennis Development Fund, formerly called the Silver Fund, was set up in 2002 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of wheelchair tennis. South Africa was one of the first countries to be supported by the fund. www.itftennis.com The NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters will move to London for 2014 and will be held at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, formerly known as Eton Manor, home of the 2012 Paralympic Tennis Event. Leading British charity, the Tennis Foundation, was awarded the rights to stage the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters for 20142016, and the finale to the wheelchair tennis season will move to London after three years in Belgium. The Tennis Foundation has a long history of staging international wheelchair tennis events in Great Britain in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association. It is a threetime host of the World Team Cup, and has organised the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships in Nottingham since 1995. Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre is currently undergoing major transformation work and will offer four indoor and six outdoor courts when it opens in Spring 2014 as part of London���s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. ���We are delighted that wheelchair tennis will become one of the first sports to build on the legacy of London 2012 by using facilities at the Olympic Park,��� said ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti. NEWS ROUND-UP SPRING 2013 London Paralympic venue to host NEC MASTERS Junior Davis CUP and Fed Cup FINALS return to Mexico Italy won the 2012 Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas The Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals will move from Barcelona, Spain to San Luis Potosi, Mexico this year. It will be the fifth time that the courts of La Loma Centro Deportivo have hosted the events, to be held on 24-29 September. The ITF���s official team competitions for boys and girls age 16 and under were first played in 1985 and have grown rapidly since then. That year, 44 nations contested regional qualifying for the chance to be among the 16 boys��� and 16 girls��� teams going through to the finals. In 2012, 183 teams from 97 countries took part with Italy lifting the Junior Davis Cup and USA winning Junior Fed Cup. Qualifying for the 2013 competitions started in February and takes place across five continents before finishing with the European Summer Cups in July. ITFWORLD SPRING 2013 15
