The ITF Global Tennis Report 2024 is the third edi on of our ground-breaking survey of the tennis-playing habits of the world, and our largest yet. In 2019 we collected par cipa on data from 195 of our member na ons; in 2021 we surveyed the top 41 na ons; in 2024, the report includes par cipa on data from 199 na ons. Only the ITF can gather this data direct from the na ons. Over the last three edi ons of the report, na ons have improved their processes for collec ng and sourcing data, and we are confident that what is presented here alongside performance pathway data reflects the worldwide state of the game. More people playing than ever before In 2019 we set an ambi ous goal to have 30 million more tennis players by 2030, and I am delighted that we are on track to achieve this. From 84.4 million players five years ago, the report shows there are now 106 million playing, a rise of 21.6 million or 25.6% with six years remaining before the new decade. This increase is even more significant given that this period includes the Covid-19 years. Our member na onal tennis associa ons tell us that the popularity of tennis is one of the key reasons for growth, driven by its global visibility and role models at the elite level. The growth strategies they have put in place, in many cases in partnership with the ITF, are also paying dividends. Behind all this is a robust structure created by the ITF to support and provide funding for na ons for coaches, equipment, facili es and events. This extends from grassroots and recrea onal players to the performance pathway, and takes in wheelchair, beach and masters (30 years plus) tennis, to ensure all na ons have opportuni es to play tennis and be represented in the professional game. A winner for health and wellbeing Tennis is also a rac ve as a sport for life with proven benefits to health and mental wellbeing. Recent market research found that 45% of people play tennis because of its health benefits, and 40% of players are also inspired by the sport's social side. Another study found that tennis has many health benefits including cardiovascular ones that can improve life expectancy by nearly 10 years. All these factors combine to make tennis a mass par cipa on sport that few others can match. To 2028 and beyond The ITF Global Tennis Report 2024 shows us that tennis is thriving, but just as importantly shows there is room for further growth. The data provided by this report helps shape our development strategies for the future under our ITF2024+4 roadmap. Ac ng on insight from both this and previous edi ons, we are working on bringing more women into the game as players and coaches through our Advantage All gender equality programme. Through our development programmes, the ITF is also offering targeted support to key larger na ons, star ng with Argen na. A THRIVING SPORT AROUND BY LUCA SANTILLI, ITF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, TENNIS DEVELOPMENT The data provided by this report helps shape our development strategies for the future.
