42 Major Events The 2023 Davis Cup compe on was the largest in the event's 123-year history, with a record 153 na ons taking part in the men's World Cup of Tennis, eight more than in 2022. Italy, led by Jannik Sinner, won the Davis Cup tle for the first me in 47 years, and their victory was watched by 22.7 million people on Italian television. Fans flock to Malaga Every male Top 50 player who was fit and whose na on was compe ng took part in the Davis Cup Final 8 in November. The Final 8 is the deciding, eight- na on knock-out stage of the Davis Cup Finals which crowns the world champion na on. The Final 8 a racted more than 60,000 fans to Malaga for its second year in the Spanish city, and the 9,200-seater Mar n Carpena Stadium was at least 90% full for the six days of the event. Although hosts Spain did not qualify for the Final 8, travelling fans from Finland, Great Britain, Italy and Netherlands generated a fantas c atmosphere. The compe ng players and our Davis Cup commercial partners also enjoyed being part of this uniquely vibrant event. Malaga hosted the Final 8 as part of the ITF's wider agreement with the Spanish region of Andalucia (see previous page). This agreement was renewed for 2024, and the Davis Cup Final 8 will return to Malaga in November. DAVIS CUP
