2023 ITF Annual Review 5 There was breakthrough South American success too at 2023 Roland Garros, where Lucciana Perez Alarcon became the first girl from Peru to reach a junior Grand Slam final. Juan Carlos Prado Angelo made history for Bolivia by doing the same in the boys event and subsequently reaching No. 1. Fonseca, Pacheco, Perez Alarcon and Prado Angelo are all grant recipients under the Grand Slam Player Development Programme, about which you can read more on page 19. Saudi Arabia and Brunei made their debuts in interna onal 16-and-under team compe on, taking part in the Billie Jean King Cup Juniors Asia/Oceania pre-qualifying event in Sri Lanka. For Saudi Arabia this was par cularly significant, as it marked the first me the na on had sent a female team to any ITF event. The ITF's five interna onal tours held 3,096 tournaments in 2023 for more than 70,000 players. We offered record prize money on the ITF World Tennis Tour and staged more higher-level women's events than ever before. In doing so we achieved near-parity in playing opportuni es available for women and men. Our mission to create more playing opportuni es con nues at junior level, and a record 922 tournaments were held on the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors in 2023 across a record 131 na ons, with notable growth in Africa. There were also record events and prize money on the Uniqlo Wheelchair Tennis Tour and ITF Beach Tennis World Tour, and record numbers of players age 30 and over on the ITF Masters Tour. The ITF's major events sit at the pinnacle of interna onal tennis and are vital in providing revenue for us to reinvest into tennis around the world. Canada's women were first- me champions of Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge, anchored by our cover star Leylah Fernandez. In Davis Cup, Italy were victorious for the first me in 47 years, watched by 22.7 million TV viewers. More na ons than ever before took part in our World Cup of Tennis compe ons, with 132 na ons compe ng in Billie Jean King Cup, and 153 in Davis Cup. Title partner Gainbridge once again backed prize money for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, ensuring that women taking part received the equivalent reward to their male peers in the Davis Cup Finals. The ITF also began an exci ng new partnership with TWG Global, forming a joint venture for Billie Jean King Cup which provides substan al investment for the compe on and ensures marke ng and promo onal exper se to elevate the women's World Cup of Tennis further. We have set ambi ous targets with our ITF 2024+4 vision and there is s ll much to do, but it is gra fying to see the con nued growth of our sport and that the ITF's strong financial performance in 2023 will enable us to con nue our mission to deliver tennis for future genera ons. I would like to extend my thanks to all the ITF's commercial partners, whose support across a wide range of our proper es makes much of our work possible. You can read more about them on page 54. Lastly, I would like to thank our member na ons, who are the lifeblood of global tennis. They have joined with the ITF on a journey of transforma on over the last eight years and are a strong, passionate global network. Working together, the future looks bright for us all.
