It was a landmark year for the Billie Jean King Cup which, since its rebrand in 2020, has expanded its reach and con nues to develop as a bold, powerful pla orm for the growth of women's tennis around the world. The compe on had record levels of par cipa on in 2022, with 110 na ons taking part. This beat the previous record of 107 na ons, set in the combined 2020-21 season. Billie Jean King Cup returned to being an annual event as we held the first post-pandemic edi on of the women's World Cup of Tennis. It was won for the first me by Switzerland, who became the 12th na on in history to win the tle, having been runners-up in 2021. Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals The ITF held the second edi on of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Glasgow, Great Britain in conjunc on with the Lawn Tennis Associa on, having had expressions of interest from eight ci es to host the elite 12-na on event which is the top er of this global compe on. Na ons advanced to the Finals following Billie Jean King Cup Qualifier es played on a home-and-away basis in April. Five of the top 15 women played in the Finals. Among them were two former Billie Jean King Cup winners, three Grand Slam singles champions, six Grand Slam finalists and two Olympic gold medallists. For the first me, prize money for women compe ng in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals was equivalent to that available for men taking part in the Davis Cup Finals. Record total prize money of $11.4 million was on offer in Glasgow, and Switzerland received a record $2 million for their triumph, the highest amount paid to the Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge 2022 ITF Annual Review 42 MAJOR EVENTS
