DEVELOPMENT 20 2022 ITF Annual Review Three former grant recipients advanced to their first Grand Slam finals in 2022, making history for their na ons in the process. Norway's Casper Ruud was runner-up at Roland Garros and the US Open. At Wimbledon, Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan defeated Tunisia's Ons Jabeur in a mee ng of fellow former grant recipients in the women's final. Jabeur, who was also US Open runner-up, is a former GSPDP touring team member too. In 2023, the GSPDP player grant programme will expand to support more than 50 athletes and reintroduce single grants of $50,000 for eligible players. Tournament grants GSPDP grants totalling $375,000 were also awarded so that ITF World Tennis Tour events could be staged in Asia, Africa, South America, Central America, and Pacific Oceania. They supported the provision of $15,000, $25,000 and $60,000 prize money events for women, and $15,000 and $25,000 events for men, so that more playing opportuni es are available closer to home in these regions. Intensive regional training In 2022, we announced Sousse in Tunisia as the new home of the African Regional Training Centre. Up to 16 players from the region will be invited to a end this intensive training hub in 2023. A regional development ini a ve supported by the ITF, the training centre will offer state- of-the-art facili es and provide talented players aged 13-18 with full- me training, schooling, and compe ve development. The ITF operated virtual training centres in Africa and Pacific Oceania in 2022. Six players in Africa and six players in Pacific Oceania were supported by ITF staff who oversaw the online educa on, training and compe on needs of the players. In 2023 we will con nue to operate a virtual training centre for four players in Pacific Oceania. We will also launch a regional development programme to further support Na onal Associa ons and player development.
