DEVELOPMENT ITF World Winter 2022/23 37 Vietnam "Vietnam launched ITF World Tennis Number – created to revolutionise tennis at the recreational level and enable national associations to drive participation nationally – in December. Also in 2022, the Vietnam Tennis Federation was awarded bronze level as part of the ITF's Recognition of Coach Education Systems programme, which was a great achievement and shows the dedication of the national association. The Vietnam Tennis Federation is very active and one of their goals for 2023 is to expand the Junior Tennis Initiative across the nation, while it is very keen to promote Beach Tennis also. In November 2022, Vietnam was one of 11 nations to receive SANDEVER Beach Tennis Superkits, an activation resource with all the necessary equipment to allow nations to develop the sport. There is a lot of focus upon Beach Tennis in Vietnam." Malaysia "The Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia launched ITF World Tennis Number, becoming the latest nation in the region to adopt the innovative digital platform, during my visit there in December. The national association in Malaysia is a fantastic organisation and one that has improved so much in recent years, while its management structure is extremely ambitious with big future plans. Last year, Malaysia achieved bronze level as part of the ITF's Recognition of Coach Education Systems programme, and the National Tennis Centre in Kuala Lumpur is an impressive facility. The nation already hosts many ITF/ ATF junior tournaments as well as ITF World Tennis Tour events, and this year the national association wants to host 40-50 events across all disciplines of tennis. They clearly want to go big, and I support them all the way." C L I C K H E R E TO R E A D M O R E Brunei "I had the pleasure of conducting my first development visit to Brunei in October 2022 during which I assessed the level of tennis development across the nation. The Brunei Tennis Association (BDTA) team, which includes President Zahiruddin Zahari, Vice President Pengiran Mohammad Sufferizal bin Pengiran Murzuki and General Secretary Mohd Yusree bin Haji Mohd Yusainey, is a good one. They will do very well. Yusree, the General Secretary, is a character. There are not many tennis administrators who are also a military helicopter pilot, lead guitarist in a metal band and build race car engines. The BDTA took an important step last year by attaining white level in the ITF's Recognition of Coach Education Systems programme and going forward they will be looking to secure ITF recognition for their National Training Centre. They are also progressing with their ITF World Tennis Number data, so everything in Brunei is very positive."
