The Communications department interacts regularly with National Association press officers, providing an important resource for nations during Davis Cup and Fed Cup ties, and offering advice and support throughout the year. Building strong relationships with individual federations has helped the ITF in its promotional efforts. The department is also responsible for the formulation and distribution of the ITF's position on a wide range of issues that in 2012 included anti-doping, player participation and Olympic eligibility. Promotional activities like the ITF World Champions Dinner offer the ITF the opportunity not only to honour the champions from the previous year but also to present its highest honour, the Philippe Chatrier Award. Novak Djokovic and Petra Kvitova headed the list of 2011 ITF World Champions who were on-hand when ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti presented tennis great Arantxa Sanchez Vicario with the 2012 Philippe Chatrier Award.
