ITFWorld // WINTER 2019/20 2 9 Gerard Rodriguez and Antomi Ramos-Viera were crowned men's doubles champions In the bronze medal match, Churakova and Glimakova buried their disappointment of semi-final defeat to post an impressive 4-6 6-1 [10-7] win to take their spot on the podium. Spaniards Antomi Ramos-Viera and Gerard Rodriguez, meanwhile, secured men's doubles gold following a tight and tense 7-6(5) 7-5 victory over Andre Baran and Vinicius Font of Brazil in a pulsating final. "For me it's the biggest win ever next to one of my best friends, the best partner ever," Rodriguez said. "People don't know what it means to play with Antomi – how he plays, how he thinks, how he helps me in everything. It's amazing and the best feeling ever." Ramos-Viera added: "It's one of the most important titles of my life. It's incredible to play here in this city and this event – it's like an Olympic Games. I don't have words for how this feels. It's one of the best days of my life, and maybe the most important match." Spain and Brazil were joined on the podium by Russia's Nikita Burmakin and Sergey Kuptsov, who downed top seeds Alessandro Calbucci and Michele Cappelletti 6-1 6-4 to claim bronze. Brazil secured their status as the most decorated beach tennis nation at the ANOC World Beach Games on the final day of competition with gold and bronze medals in the mixed doubles event. Baran and Miiller trounced France's Marie-Eve Hoarau and Nicolas Gianotti 6-1 6-1 in the final to upgrade the silver medals they won in the men's and women's doubles finals respectively. Gold was a particularly sweet moment for Miiller, who came within a point of the women's doubles title. "We were so close – it was a tough match – so this is really important," she said. "It was one more reason to play better and win this medal. I entered the court and gave 100 per cent. I am super-happy." Their partners from their men's and women's doubles finals, Cortez and Font, also returned to the podium after beating Italy's Tommaso Giovannini and Daina 4-6 7-6 [10-8] to take the bronze medal. n Russia's Liudmila Nikoyan in action For a full breakdown of results from the ANOC World Beach Games and other beach tennis tournaments visit: www.itftennis.com/beachtennis
