gold in Doha
DRAMA, EXCITEMENT AND INTRIGUE
DOMINATED OCTOBER'S INAUGURAL ANOC
WORLD BEACH GAMES AND WAS EPITOMISED
by Italy's Flaminia Daina and Nicole Nobile claiming
women's doubles gold in the most breathtaking fashion.
The No.2 seeds saved a championship point in the
second set to deny Brazil's Joana Cortez and Rafaella
Miiller victory on Katara Beach in a match packed with
thrills, spills, momentum shifts and even a mid-rally
blackout with the title on the line. Ultimately, however,
Daina and Nobile prevailed 6-7(6) 7-6(2) [13-11].
Daina and Nobile earned their place in the final
courtesy of a 7-5 5-7 [10-3] win over Russian duo Daria
Churakova and Irina Glimakova in the semi-finals, while
Cortez and Miiller ousted top seeds Sofia Cimatti and
Giulia Gasparri with a stunning performance.
