16 I ITF CIRCUITS AND PROFESSIONAL TENNIS EVENTS • ITF JUNIOR CIRCUIT Almost 100 nations took part in the ITF's two junior team competitions, with more than 340 teams competing across the 14- and 16- and-under age groups. Taylor Fritz ended the year as world No.1 and became the fi rst American boy in 10 years to be crowned ITF Junior World Champion. The 18-year-old won the US Open, reached the fi nal at Roland Garros, the semifi nals at Wimbledon and the quarterfi nals at the Australian Open. While Fritz's Grand Slam success meant he had sealed the world No.1 spot well before the end of the year, Dalma Galfi had to wait until the last tournament of the season, the Grade A Orange Bowl, before confi rming her position as girls' World Champion. The 17-year-old won the US Open, reached the semifi nals at the Australian Open and won the Wimbledon doubles title on her way to becoming the fi rst Hungarian to claim the honour. As was the case in 2014, the Grand Slam singles titles were shared out among eight players in 2015. Fritz's fellow Americans dominated the boys' events, with Tommy Paul winning Roland Garros and Reilly Opelka taking the Wimbledon title. Russia's Roman Safi ullin was the victor at the Australian Open, and his compatriot Sofya Zhuk claimed the girls' title at Wimbledon. Slovakian Tereza Mihalikova won the Australian Open and Paula Badosa Gibert of Spain was victorious at Roland Garros. The ITF Junior Circuit continued to expand its geographical reach in 2015, with Cayman Islands and Nicaragua joining the Circuit for the fi rst time while Iran and Azerbaijan rejoined after a short absence. In total 421 tournaments were held in 121 countries.
