13 SEOUL 1988 WOMEN'S SINGLES SILVER I was a little angry. And also sad. At that moment I was a little disappointed and my face was showing my feelings. But then, time goes by, and you think about it from a distance and you realise it was a big achievement to get that silver medal. I have some professional and junior trophies in a showcase. And the Olympic medal is just at the centre, together with my US Open trophy. So, this can explain a lot about the importance it has to me. What you lived was the spirit, being in the Olympic Village. I remember at 6am listening to other sportsmen and women preparing for their different competitions, and all this gave a lot of energy. I remember that after those two weeks, I left with an incredible energy in a way I hadn't felt before in any of the professional tennis tournaments. That's why it is a very special experience, very different from what we are used to. This is the reason we see it as something really important, and you involve yourself in it the way you do. It is all about the spirit. I didn't feel any negative pressure. It was a nice pressure as it was the opportunity to bring a medal to my country, and everything that happens around you helps you to do it. But it is all very positive. It is not a negative pressure thinking a whole country is waiting for you to get a medal. I didn't feel that way. From the very first day, when I had the occasion of carrying the flag at the opening ceremony, everything I experienced was really lovely. I was very happy about it. Obviously all my memories come to life when the Olympics are taking place. I like to know what is going on in them in all disciplines, including those I normally don't care about. You want to see everything. That's when I remember more my feelings while I was there. The most beautiful above all was being at the Olympic Village sharing the experience with all the athletes. Everything is surprising because it is very different – the atmosphere, having lunch with some other Argentinians... and going to the restaurant and meeting with the rest of the athletes. You find yourself saying, "Look who is there." All of them are strong experiences which take place all together in a unique place and moment. And everything surprises you. The most important thing is being open to everything that is happening to you. So, this is my advice: be open to any experience you have and this will encourage you to do your best on court. Let's cross our fingers for Argentina to get a medal again. an incredible way I hadn't before in any of the professional tennis tournaments. It was a nice pressure as it was the opportunity to bring a medal to my country.
