Swiss, but Golubic once again had the crowd on their
feet, battling back for a 36 76 61 win to force a deciding
doubles rubber.
It was no surprise that Golubic was put straight back out
for the doubles alongside Martina Hingis, who was a member of
the Switzerland team when they last reached the final 18 years
before. There was to be no fairytale here, however, as Pliskova
and Lucie Hradecka triumphed 62 62 in exactly one hour.
Netherlands had caused a huge shock in the first round,
knocking out last year's runners-up Russia in Moscow to
continue their eight-tie unbeaten run since Paul Haarhuis
took over as captain at the start of 2014. Standing in the
way of a place in the final was France, which provided
a long-awaited chance for revenge in a first meeting
between the two nations since the French triumphed in
the 1997 final.
