Born into a tennis family, Cheney was the daughter of Wimbledon and uS Nationals Champion may Sutton Bundy and uS Nationals Doubles Champion Tom Bundy. She was involved in tennis from a young age and played the game well into her 90s. The highlight of Cheney's career was winning the Australian Championships in 1938, becoming the first American woman to do so. She was a runner- up three times in women's doubles at Grand Slam tournaments, and was a mixed doubles finalist four times. In singles she reached the semifinals at all four majors, and achieved a career-high ranking of world No. 6 in 1946, featuring in the Top 10 throughout the late 1930s and mid 1940s. oBItUAry: pABLo LLoreNS oBituarY: dorotHY cHeneY Obituary: Manuel Carrera del riO Arturo Grimaldi, President of the Argentine Tennis Association (AAT), died on 26 october age 63 following a battle with cancer. Grimaldi, a lawyer, was one of the finest junior players in Argentina during the 1960s. He became a board member of the AAT in 1996, having previously been President of the Tenis Club Argentino, and became AAT President in 2009 after a spell as Vice President during Enrique Morea's presidency. Grimaldi was also President of the South American Tennis Confederation (COSAT) between 2011 and 2013. "All of us at the ITF were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Arturo Grimaldi," said ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti. "We at the ITF worked closely with Arturo and his team on successful Davis Cup and Fed Cup ties over many years and we thought of him as both friend and colleague. He will be missed by all of us in the tennis family and we send our condolences to his family and his friends around the world. Carrera del rio was President of the ecuador Tennis Federation from 2002 to 2010 and was on the ITF Women's Circuit Committee from 2006 to 2011. "Manuel served for many years in Ecuador as well as within the ITF family. He was a man of immense presence and I am sure he will be missed by many who came into contact with him over the years," said ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti. OBITUARY: ARTURO GRIMALDI japan's Shingo kunieda and Thailand's Sakhorn khanthasit won gold in the singles events of the Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games in october, in the process earning automatic qualification for the rio 2016 Paralympic Tennis event. Kunieda — the captain of Japan's team of 285 athletes at the Games — and Khanthasit each won their second successive Asian Para Games singles gold medal at the event, which had ITF 2 Series status on the Uniqlo Wheelchair Tennis Tour. World No. 1 Kunieda defeated countryman and world No. 9 Takashi Sanada 63 61 in the gold medal match, having already secured doubles gold alongside Sanada. Khanthasit beat China's Jin Lian Huang 63 61 to secure the women's gold medal, and like Kunieda also won gold in the doubles, teaming with Wanitha Inthanin to top the podium. Wheelchair world No. 1 Yui Kamiji, beaten by Khanthasit in the semifinals, collected women's singles bronze for Japan, while Korea's Sang-Ho Oh took the men's bronze medal. Mitsuteru Moroishi won the first-ever Asian Para Games quad singles gold medal after beating second seed Shota Kawano 46 62 62 in three sets in their all-Japanese final; the bronze went to Korea Republic's Kyu-Seung Kim. Pablo Llorens, former President of the Spanish Tennis Federation (rFeT), died on 18 November. An honorary ITF Life vice President, Llorens served as the Chairman of the ITF olympic Tennis Committee and was instrumental, alongside former ITF President Philippe Chatrier, in re-establishing tennis as an olympic sport in Seoul in 1988. A member of the Spanish Olympic Committee since 1971, Llorens was RFET President for 15 years and in 1975 founded the European Tennis Association — now Tennis Europe — together with federation presidents of France, Switzerland, Germany and Great Britain. Llorens was awarded the ITF/ International Tennis Hall of Fame Golden Achievement Award in 2001.
