Comebacks from 0-2 Down in a Final Since the best of five format was introduced in 1995, no nation has come back from 0-2 down in the Fed Cup Final. Spain when defeating Switzerland in 1998, and Italy, when defeating Belgium in 2006, are the only two nations to date to come back from 1-2 down in a Final. For all comebacks from 0-2 down see p44. Comebacks from First Round Losses In 2009, Italy became the third nation since the World Group began to win the Fed Cup a year after having lost in the previous year's first round and survived the World Group play-offs: Year Year Year 1997 (WG-1R) Belgium d. In 2012 Serbia became the third finalist nation after Belgium (2006) Russia (2011) to play all three Fed Cup ties in one year at home since the home-and-away format was adopted in 1995. Note: Spain also played all its ties at home in 2002, but this was one of the four years that the semifinals and final were played in the same week at the same venue (Gran Canaria, Spain).
