INTEGRITY & GOVERNANCE member of the WADA Strategic Tes ng Expert Advisory Group at the end of 2024. Coaching rule change Following a mul -year research programme, off-court coaching was added to the Rules of Tennis at the start of 2025, having been ra fied by the ITF's member na ons at the 2024 ITF AGM. As guardian of the game and the Rules of Tennis, we had been trialling the use of off-court coaching since 2017 and all interna onal bodies who sanc on tournaments had been involved since 2023, with posi ve feedback from players, coaches and chair umpires. The permanent rule change gives sanc oning bodies the ability to allow off-court coaching in their compe ons. Sport science and medicine The ITF's Sport Science and Medicine Commission (SSMC) looks at ways to reduce injuries and illnesses in tennis. In 2024, it produced recommenda ons and educa onal material to help tournament organisers manage medical emergencies. The commission started an audit of the availability of automated external defibrillators at ITF events, with the strong endorsement that they should be available everywhere to increase the chances of survival during cardiac arrest. In rela on to this, a video- based course on cardiopulmonary resuscita on (CPR) was added to the ITF Academy in 2024. In consulta on with the commission, we updated the ITF's gender eligibility policy in me for the start of the 2025 season to align with the WTA's policy. Technical The ITF's Technical Centre, based in our head office in London, con nued to encourage innova on in tennis in 2024. Ball manufacturers submit samples of their products for the ITF to evaluate, and those that meet the required standards receive an 'ITF Approved' mark of quality. The ITF also provides a classifica on programme based on the pace (ie playing speed) of surfaces, and a court recogni on programme for measuring the quality of installa on of courts. Through our Sustainable Equipment Working Group, which we set up in partnership with tennis manufacturers and our member na ons, the ITF is looking at ini a ves to reduce the environmental impact of tennis equipment. With tennis balls accoun ng for a major part of tennis's global carbon footprint, we unveiled a prototype ball that has a 3D-printed shell instead of the tradi onal felt cover, and the group considered how this could make tennis balls more sustainable, and what changes would need to be made to the Rules of Tennis to permit use of this kind of ball. The ITF is also developing a simple- to-use app to measure a ball's bounce height and determine whether a ball can carry on being used. The goal is to maximise the life me of balls and prevent them from being disposed of prematurely. In partnership with our officia ng team, the ATP, WTA and the four Grand Slam tournaments, we tested and classified live electronic line- calling (ELC) systems from new and exis ng providers. The Bolt6 system, already available for hard court use, was cer fied for use on grass and clay in 2024. There are now four systems cer fied by the ITF for real- me line calling. The others are Hawk-Eye, Foxtenn and IMG Arena, which are approved for use on hard and grass courts, with trials for their use on clay ongoing. These systems are known as the Gold level because they are approved for use in elite interna onal tournaments. The ITF began tes ng systems for use in lower-level interna onal tournaments – the Silver level – at the end of 2024. Through our ongoing tes ng, we increased the number of ITF-approved player analysis technology (PAT) products to 34. PAT devices generate valuable performance data that can be used for coaching, condi oning and in-game tac cs. The ITF con nued its ball, equipment and court cer fica on programmes, and in 2024 raised nearly $1.5 million through fees for these programmes which will be reinvested into tennis. 2024 ITF BALL, EQUIPMENT AND COURT CERTIFICATION PROGRAMMES IN NUMBERS 4 ITF CERTIFIED ELECTRONIC LINE-CALLING SYSTEMS 343 ITF APPROVED BALL BRANDS $1.5M RAISED FROM TESTING AND FEES FOR REINVESTMENT INTO THE SPORT NEARLY 308 ITF CLASSIFIED COURT SURFACE PRODUCTS 237 ITF RECOGNISED COURTS 34 APPROVED PLAYER ANALYSIS TECHNOLOGY PRODUCTS 56 2024 ITF Annual Review
