44 Major Events The ITF manages the tennis and wheelchair tennis events at the Games and ensures that they are a unique experience for players every four years, and a showcase for tennis at the world's biggest global sport event. Eleva ng the posi on of tennis within the Olympics and Paralympics is a key strategic ITF2024+4 priority. We reinvest the income the ITF receives from the Olympic Games back into the sport. As well as providing vital revenue, through their global reach the Games support the growth of tennis by providing inspira on and role models for both professional and recrea onal players, and take the sport to new audiences. Countdown to Paris 2024 In 2023 we con nued to count down to Paris 2024, which will be the first Olympic and Paralympic Games since the pandemic. Our prepara on cycle for this edi on was reduced because the Tokyo 2020 Games were delayed un l 2021. A total of 172 players will compete in the Olympic tennis event, which starts on 27 July, and 96 players will take part in the Paralympics, beginning 30 August. The first tennis athletes became eligible for Paris 2024 thanks to their winning performances at regional mul -sport events in 2023. The men's and women's singles gold medal winners at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, and men's and women's gold and silver medallists at the Pan American Games in San ago, Chile, secured their places subject to mee ng all other entry requirements. They were joined in early 2024 by the men's and women's singles champions of the rescheduled African Games in Accra, Ghana. The tennis winners of the 2023 Asian Para Games, Parapan American Games, inaugural European Para Championships, and the African Para Games also became eligible for the Paralympics. Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge and the BNP Paribas World Team Cup are part of the Olympic and Paralympic qualifica on pathway for players, with par cipa on in the ITF's interna onal team events an important element of eligibility to compete in the Games. The first half of 2024 provided the final opportuni es for athletes to play these events and qualify. The complete player line-up for the Olympics, determined a er the ranking cut-off date of 10 June, is now set. The ranking cut-off date for the Paralympics was 15 July. OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC GAMES
