LUCIE HAVLICKOVA INTERVIEW 10 Winter 2022/23 ITF World Czech Republic's Lucie Havlickova has a penchant for baking, but it is her on-court performances which are proving a recipe for success as she eyes a progressive rise in 2023 following her silverware-laden exploits last season. The previous 12 months represented a breakthrough period for the 17-year-old and, after a series of career-best accolades, she followed in the footsteps of some illustrious Czech players by being crowned an ITF World Champion in December. Havlickova now intends to make her presence felt within the professional ranks and focus more on ITF World Tennis Tour events in the coming months. In short, she has designs on progressing along the ITF player pathway. However, this is only possible following the firm foundations the teenager laid within junior tennis in 2022. Indeed, it was a season to remember and one which provided both defining moments and indelible memories. Perhaps the most notable achievement and the accomplishment that will fuel her bid for further glories was a maiden Junior Grand Slam singles triumph in June when she topped the girls' podium at Roland Garros. "I didn't believe it at the time and didn't really understand what was happening but then it all hit, and it was unbelievable," Havlickova told ITFWorld. "I didn't expect it at all. I was very, very happy and winning at Roland Garros was definitely the highlight of the year. "Overall, I achieved everything I wanted and more in 2022. Sadly, I haven't played any tournaments as the junior world No.1, but it will give me confidence and many opportunities this year in my women's career." During a standout 2022 campaign, Havlickova also tasted victory in the doubles in Paris after teaming up to great effect with fellow Czech Sara Bejlek, who enjoyed an impressive campaign of her own last term. star ON THE RISE
