DEVELOPMENT To ensure the highest quality development and delivery of the sport to na ons worldwide, the ITF provides coaching, training, tools and materials, making them accessible to as many people as possible. In 2021 we achieved this through ongoing crea on and u lisa on of courses, conferences, online learning tools and various publica ons. Coaches who successfully complete courses as part of the ITF Coach Educa on Programme are awarded a Na onal Associa on and ITF cer ficate in one of four levels. ITF Academy The hugely popular ITF Academy pla orm, our online home for tennis educa on, was created for anyone interested in tennis, whether as a player, coach, parent or sports science prac oner. The ITF Academy contains a wide range of short courses presented through text, audio, video and anima ons, and a comprehensive content library of conference videos and scien fic research papers. In 2021, the ITF Academy was used to deliver more than 140 coach educa on programmes, both online and face-to-face, and is currently used as the learning management system in more than 70 na ons. Education 2021 ITF Annual Review 19 When tennis coaches were unable to work due to Covid-19, the ITF made more resources on the ITF Academy free so that they could con nue their professional development online. At the end of 2021, there were more than 210,000 total users of the pla orm, with around 155,000 using it during the major pandemic period between March 2020 and December 2021. The ITF also has 175 coaching publica ons available in 14 languages. Olympic Solidarity courses Grants for coaching courses are available through Olympic Solidarity, a commission that provides assistance to all Na onal Olympic Commi ees (NOCs) for development programmes. Our member Na onal Associa ons who wish to host coaching courses and require funding apply via their NOC for these grants. From 2017 to 2020, the ITF was the top-ranked interna onal federa on among 39 Olympic sports, helping to organise 79 technical courses and 69 Olympic scholarships for coaches. In 2021 alone, we organised two technical courses with 25 coaches receiving Olympic scholarships. ITF World Coaches Conference We held the ITF World Coaches Conference by BNP Paribas virtually for the first me in 2021. The conference facilitates discussions around best prac ce and improvements for tennis coaching, applied sport science for coaching, player development, par cipa on and coach educa on. More than 1,750 par cipants from 150 na ons watched presenta ons from leading tennis figures, coaching and sport science experts including Judy Murray, Feliciano Lopez, Andres Gomez, Marc Kovacs, Machar Reid and Mar na Hingis. This was a huge increase from the previous ITF World Coaches Conference held in person in 2019, which saw 614 par cipants from 113 na ons. Ongoing educa on In 2022, we will con nue to look at ways of improving and promo ng the ITF Academy to support ongoing learning. Our goal is to increase to 220,000 users, with an equal male-female split, as driven by our Advantage All gender equality programme (see page 52). We will introduce parent educa on workshops, launch manager educa on for tennis club managers, and offer ITF player educa on for individuals who par cipate in the ITF World Tennis Tour to ensure they have all the tools and informa on required to progress up the player pathway. We will also hold ITF Regional Coaches Conferences, some face-to-face with live streaming, and others delivered virtually.
