They have illustrious histories and have been contested by tennis's greatest players, and con nue to a ract today's elite men and women because they provide a rare opportunity for players to represent their country in team compe on. The top ers of both events, the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals and the Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Finals, bring the best na ons together to compete for the World Champion tle. Recent changes afforded the two world-class Finals events the opportunity to flourish in a new World Cup of Tennis format that reflects the experience and atmosphere of these unique na on-versus-na on tennis compe ons. Davis Cup is something that you cherish and you want to play for. I watched it several mes on TV as a kid and then experienced it live. It just transforms your feeling about tennis completely. Marin Cilic, member of Croa a's 2018 Davis Cup-winning team and 2014 US Open champion 2021 ITF Annual Review 39 Davis Cup by Rakuten in 2020/2021 In 2021, the ITF delivered a safe and successful return to the Davis Cup compe on following a postponement due to Covid-19. It was a unique edi on of the annual event, which took place across two years because of the pandemic. Last year was the first me the Davis Cup Finals were held in three separate ci es – Madrid, Turin and Innsbruck from 25 November to 2 December. The Finals featured 18 teams divided into six round robin groups of three, as part of changes announced in 2021. The winners of each group and the two best runners-up qualified for the quarter-finals, which were played in the three ci es (two in Madrid, one in Innsbruck and Turin). The semi-finals and the final took place in Madrid from 3 to 5 December. 151 na ons A RECORD
