MESHKATOLZAHRA
SAFI
Meshkatolzahra Safi
announced herself on the
world stage in January when
she became the first Iranian
player to record a Junior
Grand Slam match-win after
defeating Anja Nayar in the
first round at the Australian
Open Junior Championships.
It was a Grand Slam debut to
remember for the 17-year-old
as she assumed the status of the
first Iranian junior to compete
at a major since the Wimbledon
Championships in 1978.
Safi is also the only player from
Iran to have been ranked within
the top 100 of the junior
world rankings, which follows a
stunning 2021 campaign during
which she won 10 junior titles
across both singles and doubles.
Following her exploits in
Melbourne, Safi spoke
passionately about her tennis
career and some of the hurdles
which she has had to overcome.
She is clearly extremely driven
and determined to make her
presence felt and go as far
as she can in the game.
This is one journey which will
be interesting to follow.
Good luck, Meshkat.
