(continued from previous page) In other major wheelchair tennis events, Kunieda and Jiske Griffioen won the men's and women's singles titles and David Wagner the quads and the NEC Wheelchair Masters, while the teams of Houdet/Kunieda, Griffioen/Aniek van Koot and Nick Taylor/Wagner took the doubles titles at the Invacare Doubles Masters. At the BNP Paribas World Team Cup, France won the men's title, Netherlands the women's and junior titles, and Israel the quads. Seniors Tennis continues to grow in numbers from the 35s all the way through to the Super-Seniors, which is offering a new category of over 85 for women from 2013. The Seniors Individual and Team World Championships, held in San Diego, and the Super-Seniors Individual and Team World Championships, held in Umag, Croatia, attract large numbers of players and are unquestionably huge successes. In Paris, at the ITF World Champions Dinner, we honoured Lorne Main of Canada for his achievements in Seniors Tennis and we plan to honour other top senior players in the future. Arantxa Sanchez Vicario of Spain was presented with the ITF's highest honour, the Philippe Chatrier Award, at the ITF World Champions Dinner in Paris. Sanchez Vicario turned out for team and country more times than any other Fed Cup player in history and is one of the most decorated tennis Olympians. The Grand Slam Development Fund (GSDF) showed another return on investment in 2012 when Victoria Azarenka, a member of two ITF/Grand Slam Junior Touring Teams in 2004, won her first Grand Slam at the Australian Open and 4 REVIEW OF THE YEAR became world No. 1. The GSDF continues to partner the ITF in development activities, which in 2013 includes the first ever World Tennis Day following its launch at the 2012 Davis Cup Final. It was an amazing year for Czech tennis with wins in Davis Cup and Fed Cup, but the Czechs also won the Hyundai Hopman Cup, becoming the first nation to hold all three titles in the same year. In 2012, the ITF Men's Circuit offered $6.675 million in prize money at 582 events in 70 countries while the ITF Women's Circuit offered more than $10 million at 484 events in 61 countries. The ITF Pro Circuit maintains its important role in providing opportunities for entry level professional players. Another ITF success story is the rapid growth of the ITF Beach Tennis tour. In 2012, the ITF Beach Tennis World Team Championship was staged for the first time, hosted by the Russian Tennis Federation at the new National Tennis Centre in Moscow. Italy, considered the leading beach tennis nation, defeated Brazil in the final to become the first Beach Tennis World Team Champion. We continue to face the challenge of growing our income in order to support an ever greater range of activity. The global economic environment remains a difficult one and so we look ahead with caution and focus on delivering to the best of our ability while continuing to operate within our means.
