Berdych and Kvitova defeated the French pairing of Richard Gasquet and Marion Bartoli 2-0 in the final to hand their country the title for the second time, 18 years after Jana Novotna and Petr Korda had first done so. World No. 2 Kvitova defeated Bartoli 75 61 and Berdych, the world No.7, overcame Gasquet 76 64. The French won all their match-ups in Group B, where they were drawn with Australia, China, P.R., and Spain. The encounter with Spain sealed France's place in the final, world No. 9 Bartoli defeating Anabel Medina Garrigues and Gasquet beating Fernando Verdasco. More than 72,000 people attended the 24th edition of the mixed team event which was being held for the last time in Perth's Burswood Dome before transferring to the newly-built Perth Arena for 2013. The field featured the world's top two women, world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki and Kvitova, and two men in the Top 10, Berdych and world No. 8 Mardy Fish. Added into the mix was Australia's two-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt, who teamed up with Jarmila Gajdosova, and Bethanie Mattek-Sands, one half of the victorious 2011 US team, who played this time with Fish. The Czech players were unbeaten in singles throughout the eight-day competition. The event was shown on One HD, with 2012 being year two of a four-year deal signed with Network Ten as national broadcaster. Every match was also broadcast live on radio via SportFM. Title sponsor Hyundai celebrated its 24th year of involvement with the event, and was joined by key sponsor Tourism WA, host sponsor Burswood Entertainment Complex and major sponsors Amcom Telecom, Edith Cowan University and NAB. In 2012, agreement was reached with Tennis Australia to grow their involvement with the tournament and to return Hopman Cup to the Australian Open Series from 2013 onwards.
