TEENAGERS BIANCA ANDREESCU AND CORI GAUFF ARE TWO PLAYERS TO HAVE LEFT AN INDELIBLE MARK ON THE WORLD OF TENNIS DURING 2019. Canada's Andreescu continued her remarkable rise by clinching the first Grand Slam title of her fledgling career by beating Serena Williams in the final of September's US Open. American Gauff, meanwhile, who does not turn 16 until March, illuminated the Wimbledon Championships by embarking on a stunning run to the fourth round. As a qualifier, Gauff dispatched her idol Venus Williams, Magdalena Rybarikova and Polona Hercog before falling to eventual champion Simona Halep. Both players cut their teeth at the World Junior Tennis Finals and in Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas – representing their countries at high-stakes junior events – before, in Andreescu's case, moving on to Fed Cup by BNP Paribas. Both Andreescu and Gauff played on the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors, winning Junior Grand Slams along the way, and the ITF World Tennis Tour Women's. The rapid progression of Andreescu and Gauff highlights the importance of the player pathway that the ITF provides and the value of ensuring that talented young players are supported in their quest to reach the higher levels of professional tennis. ■ Cori Gauff 2017 Crowned ITF World Junior Tennis girls' champion with USA 2018 Seals Junior Grand Slam glory with victory at Roland Garros 2018 Wins Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas with USA 2019 Aged 15, reaches fourth round at Wimbledon 2019 Secures maiden Tour-level title in women's doubles at Citi Open alongside Caty McNally in August 2019 Claims first Tour-level singles title by defeating Jelena Ostapenko in Linz in October COMING AGE of G R A N D S L A M S GRAND SLAM WINNERS 3 8 ITFWorld // AUTUMN 2019 Roland Garros
