ITFWorld // SPRING 2019 2 9 LOOKING TO THE FUTURE ITF makes Hopman Cup pledge following termination of licensing agreement THE ITF HAS REITERATED ITS COMMITMENT TO CONTINUING TO STAGE THE HOPMAN CUP AFTER CONFIRMING AN ARRANGEMENT, in March, for Tennis Australia to end the licensing agreement for the tournament with immediate effect. Founded in 1989, the Hopman Cup has proven highly successful with male and female players, sponsors, broadcasters and tennis fans and was due to take place in Perth through to 31 January 2022. The ITF strongly believes in the importance of combined men's and women's events in the international tennis calendar and has begun the search for a new tournament partner and has received interest from cities around the world. ITF President David Haggerty said: "We would like to thank Tennis Australia and the West Australian government for their involvement in staging an outstanding event over the past 30 years. "The event would also not be what it is today without the long-standing support of Lucy Hopman and Paul McNamee. The ITF is committed to upholding the core values of the Hopman Cup in the future and we are encouraged by the interest that has already been expressed. "We are in discussions with potential partners to decide where and when this tournament will be next hosted. We will keep the Hopman Cup alive and look forward to successful future editions of this unique event." ■ H O P M A N C U P
